Intelligent Driver Alert System is specifically designed for bus operations to enhance safety and accuracy. This advanced system incorporates adaptive pedestrian detection and head pose detection to reduce false alarms, minimizes distractions, and promotes driver attentiveness.
Adaptive Pedestrian Detection for Buses:
In urban areas like Hong Kong, traditional pedestrian detection systems often trigger false alarms when buses approach bus stops. To address this issue, our system utilizes adaptive pedestrian detection. When a bus stop is detected, the system intelligently adjusts the alert mechanism. Even if a pedestrian is in the detection area, the alert will not be triggered if the bus speed is relatively low. This adaptive feature ensures accurate alerts and reduces unnecessary distractions for the driver.

Head Pose Detection:
In pandemic situation, bus drivers are required to wear masks while driving. This can sometimes lead to inaccurate alerts from Driver Assistance Systems (DAS). To overcome this challenge, our system incorporates head pose detection. It accurately determines whether the driver is looking forward or in another direction. If the driver is found to be looking away from the road for a prolonged period, the system promptly sends out alerts. This ensures that the driver remains focused on the road, even with the presence of masks.
